Various types of art and architecture developed by the civilization along with cultural rituals and holidays.
Early Roman art was generally associated with the establishmant of the Republic in 509 BC and the overthrow of kings. the art is generally divided into two categories: The art of the Republic, and the art of the Roman empire. The Romans did architecture, painting, sculpture, and mosaic work. The art was based off of greek, but also Etruscan, native Italic, and even Egyptian. The Romans worked with clay and rock to build sculptures, and some of these are still here today. For instance, monumental sculptures, like Trajan's column.
Trajan's column is an example of monumental architecture, and celebrates Emporor Trajan's great deeds in Dacia. It is an example of a lasting monument from Roman times. But art is more than physical. Romans also had many rich cultures that they used. Their religion was adopted from the Greeks. The gods they adopted had the same basic core attributes, but they had different names, and were more warlike and disciplined. The most famous religious story was of Romulus and Remus, two twins who were suckled by a she-wolf named Lupa. They had many traditions, such as the sacrificing of certain animals publicly and privately, and celebrations such as Saturnalia and Bacchunalia where more sacrifices were made.
